Book 26, Question 67
How did the thermometer develop?
Canada uses Celsius, and the United States uses Fahrenheit.
Around 1600, Galileo built a device that showed changes in temperature but had no scale. Daniel Fahrenheit made a mercury thermometer with a scale in 1714. In 1742, Anders Celsius made a scale based on the freezing and boiling of water. Today thermometers use liquid, metal strips, or electronic sensors.
