Book 26, Question 55
How was paper first made in ancient China?
An official named Cai Lun is traditionally credited with improving it using plant fibers, old rags, and bark.
Paper was made in China around 2,000 years ago. The fibers were beaten into pulp, spread on a screen, and dried into sheets. Before this, people wrote on clay, bamboo, silk, or papyrus. Paper-making spread along trade routes across the world.
