Book 25, Question 84
What tiny creatures live on a city sidewalk?
A sidewalk may seem empty, but there is a lot of life in its cracks.
Ants build nests under paving stones and follow scent trails for food. Tiny springtails, mites, and sow bugs hide in damp corners, and spiders spin webs in sheltered spots. Moss and small weeds grow in cracks. Scientists have found surprising numbers of species in a single block.
