Book 25, Question 51
How does water travel through a city's pipes to your tap?
Treated water leaves the treatment plant through huge pipes called water mains buried under the streets.
They branch into smaller pipes that run along every block, and a thin service pipe connects each building. Pumps and tall tanks keep the water under pressure so that it flows when you turn on a faucet. Valves let crews shut off sections for repairs.
