Book 24, Question 135
How can dogs find food that grows underground?
Truffles are fungi that grow underground near tree roots. They give off a strong smell that dogs can detect from far away. Trained dogs and their handlers walk through woods, and when a dog catches the scent, it paws or sits to show where to dig. A good nose is a wonderful tool, since dogs can smell far better than people.
