Book 24, Question 31
How does a worm push through hard soil without legs?
An earthworm has two sets of muscles. One squeezes it long and thin, and the other makes it short and fat. It reaches ahead with a pointed head, anchors itself with tiny bristles, then pulls the rest of its body forward. A slippery coat of mucus helps it slide.
