Book 24, Question 8

Why does mud get so sticky and slippery?

Mud is soil mixed with water. Clay and silt grains are so tiny that water coats each one in a thin film. A little water makes the grains cling to each other and to your boots. More water lets the grains slide past each other, so the mud turns slippery.
