Why Are So Many Rainforest Trees Tall and Skinny with No Branches Near the Ground?
Rainforest trees race one another for sunlight. A tall trunk with no low branches grows fast toward the light. It saves energy by not growing leaves where it is dark, and spreads its branches only at the top.
