Why Is the Canopy Called the Roof of the Forest?

The canopy is the thick layer where the branches and leaves of most tall trees meet. It is about 60 to 100 feet up, which is 18 to 30 meters. It catches most of the sunlight and rain, so it shelters the layers below, like a roof.
