Why Do Some Desert Plants Spread Their Roots Wide but Shallow?
Some desert plants spread their roots wide but shallow to catch rain fast! A desert rain soaks only the top few inches of soil, and it dries quickly. A wide net of roots can drink it up before it disappears.
