Why Does the Inside of a Seashell Shimmer with Colors?
The inside of many shells, called mother-of-pearl, is built from lots of super-thin layers of a chalky material. Light bounces off the top and bottom of each layer, and some colors line up and grow brighter. Tilt the shell, and the colors change.
