Book 13, Question 22
Why Can You See the Shadow of a Cloud Sliding Across a Field?
A cloud blocks sunlight and casts a shadow on the ground below it. The wind pushes the cloud along, so its shadow glides across the field. The shadow is darkest right where the cloud is blocking the Sun.
More fun facts
- Clouds are thick enough to block some sunlight, which leaves a shadow on the ground.
- As wind moves the cloud, its shadow slides across the land.
- Satellites can photograph cloud shadows from space.
- Clouds can even cast shadows on lower layers of clouds.
- When the Sun is low, tall storm clouds cast extra long shadows.
