Book 10, Question 32
Why Do You Need Lungs?
You need lungs because they trade gases with the air! Oxygen goes in, and carbon dioxide comes out. This happens across tiny, moist air sacs called alveoli.
More fun facts
- Air going into your lungs passes through smaller and smaller tubes.
- Inside the lungs, the main airways split like tree branches into tens of thousands of tiny tubes.
- The tiniest tubes end in tiny air sacs called alveoli.
- Air moves from places of high pressure to low pressure, which is how it rushes in and out of your lungs.
- Carbon dioxide leaves the alveoli and flows out through your mouth and nose.
