Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover, and this is a serious one. Let's discover something amazing. Why should you get out and tell a grown-up if a fire starts in the kitchen?

The Big Idea

If a fire starts in the kitchen, the safest plan is to get out, tell a grown-up, and call for help! You are never supposed to fight a fire yourself. Grown-ups and firefighters have the training to handle it.

Get Out

Step one: get out. Fire and smoke grow quickly, so leave the kitchen right away. Stay low, and do not stop to pick things up.

Tell a Grown-up

Step two: tell a grown-up. Shout or run to tell a grown-up, so they know exactly what is happening. Never go back inside for anything, not even a pet or a toy.

Call for Help

Step three: call for help. From a safe place outside, call the emergency number, which is 911 in Canada. Only a grown-up should try to smother a small pan fire with a lid, and nobody should ever throw water on burning grease.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at a fire plan! Find the smoke alarms in your home. Know two ways out of every room. Pick a safe meeting spot outside. And call the emergency number from outside.

Quick Facts
