Why Teach Kids to Question Viral ‘Planet’ Photos?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why teach kids to question viral ‘planet’ photos?

The Big Idea

We teach kids to question viral planet photos because many are art, composites, or mislabeled! Real sky detectives check the source, the scale, and the date. Skepticism is a science tool. It means asking good questions before you believe.

Look at the Source

Step one: check the source. Ask who took the picture and who first shared it. Real space pictures usually come from space agencies and observatories with clear credits.

Check the Scale

Step two: check the scale. A viral photo might show a giant Moon rising over a tiny city. Often, pictures like that are edited, or taken with a special zoom trick that makes the Moon look huge.

Check the Date

Step three: check the date. Some pictures are old and shared again as if they were new. A reverse image search can show where it first appeared, and whether it has been changed.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The source tells you who made the picture. The scale tells you if the sizes make sense. The date shows if it is new or old. A reverse search finds the picture's history.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Skepticism is a science tool. Composite images are made by blending many photos. Art can look very real, but it is not a photograph, and that is okay if it is labelled. Always search online with a grown-up.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, be a picture detective! With a grown-up, pick one dramatic space image. Do a reverse image search to find its origin. Check the source and the date. Then decide if it is real, and explain your reasons.
