Intro

Ahoy, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do kids' small habits still matter for the ocean?

The Big Idea

Most ocean trash and chemicals start on land, on streets, in yards, and at picnic tables. Rain and wind carry leftovers into drains and rivers, and rivers flow to the sea. So small habits add up when many people repeat them.

Step 1

Step one: a choice happens on land. A small thing, like leaving a bottle cap or wrapper outside, seems tiny.

Step 2

Step two: many people repeat it. If lots of people do the same thing, it becomes a big pile. Rain and wind then carry it into drains and rivers.

Step 3

Step three: better choices shrink the pile. Refilling a bottle, snipping rings, and using the bin all shrink what the ocean receives. Prevention beats rescue.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at where land water goes! A street drain collects water and anything in it. That water flows into a river. And the river carries it to the beach and ocean.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Habits beat one giant guilt trip, so repeat the good ones. One cap is tiny, but a million kids putting caps in the bin is a big gift for the ocean. Ocean tools include a refill bottle, a cut ring, a path on the dune, and a dark porch. You don't have to fix the whole ocean alone. Stack kind habits with a grown-up.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Why does tiny stop being tiny at a million times? Name two land habits that help the waves. With a grown-up, pick one small habit to try for a week.

Outro

The ocean is downstream from almost every street. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
