Intro
Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. WHY IS PEER REVIEW A FILTER?
The Big Idea
Before you publish a big claim, imagine other experts try to poke holes in it. That poking is called peer review. Peers are other experts in the same field. It works like a filter. It catches missing tests, sloppy math, and hidden guesses before the claim goes out.
Step 1
Number one: a team writes the claim. First, the team writes a paper explaining what they found and how they know. It includes their tests and their data.
Step 2
Number two: other experts ask hard questions. Other experts read it closely, and write notes and questions. They check the tests, the math, and the guesses.
Step 3
Number three: the team fixes gaps. The team answers the questions and fixes any problems. Then the paper is published, or sent back with the note: try again.
A Closer Look
Let's follow one paper through the filter. It starts as a draft. Reviewers add notes and questions. And the revised paper is stronger!
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Peer review can take weeks or months, and that's on purpose. Speed isn't the goal. Reviewers check the work, not how famous the author is. A paper sent back with try again means the method is working. Fresh eyes can catch things that the authors missed.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Write a short claim, like: cats are faster than turtles. Trade with a friend, and let them ask a hard question. Then ask, what hole should a reviewer look for first? And why is try again useful?
