Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. WHY IS A DRAWING STILL USEFUL IN A PHOTO WORLD?

The Big Idea

We have cameras everywhere, so why do scientists still draw? A camera grabs everything. But a drawing lets you decide what matters. That choice is thinking on paper. And you notice more when you draw!

Step 1

Number one: look hard. Before you draw, you have to really look. You notice bumps, lines, and shapes that you'd miss at a glance.

Step 2

Number two: pick the important lines. You choose the lines that matter, and leave out the clutter. That helps the important parts stand out.

Step 3

Number three: add labels, and photograph too. Labels and arrows explain what you see. A photo shows proof, and a drawing shows attention. Scientists use both!

A Closer Look

Let's compare a sketch and a photo. The sketch highlights the important parts. The photo records everything, exactly as it looked. Together, they tell the whole story.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Field notebooks from the 1800s are still used to teach science today. Drawing slows you down, so you notice more. Labels, arrows, and cutaway views fit easily on a sketch. A kid's sketch of a museum skeleton is real science practice!

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Pick a leaf or a shell, and look at it for one whole minute. Then draw it, and add three labels with arrows. Ask, what can a drawing show that a photo hides in clutter? And why do labels belong on the sketch?

A pencil and a sharp eye are still amazing science tools! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
