Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why did T. Rex have such tiny arms?

The Big Idea

T. Rex had a huge head and a powerful bite. Its arms looked tiny next to that giant head, but scientists think they were still useful tools. The head was the main weapon, not the arms.

Head Takes the Job

Step one: the head takes the job. T. Rex hunted with its enormous skull and jaws. A heavy head needs a strong neck and strong legs. So the animal's body was built around the bite.

Balance Wins

Step two: balance wins. The long tail swung out behind to balance the heavy head, like the two ends of a seesaw. Big arms would have added extra weight at the front. Short arms kept the body balanced.

Short but Strong

Step three: short but strong. Each arm had just two clawed fingers, and the arm bones were thick with room for strong muscles. Each arm was about 1 meter long, and scientists think they could grip tightly.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at T. Rex! A huge skull, with a powerful bite. Tiny arms, but strong ones. Big strong legs for walking and running. And a heavy tail that balances the head.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! T. Rex's skull could be about 1.5 meters long. That is as tall as many kids! Scientists still debate exactly what the arms were for. That is science working! Other big hunting dinosaurs had short arms, too. Museums keep real bones safe, so look from the path.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! If the head does the hunting, what job is left for the arms? Try this. Hold your arms straight out in front of you and lean forward. What happens to your balance? Compare arm size to body size, not to your own arms. And what evidence would settle the argument?

Tiny arms teach us that every body part has a story. Keep asking why! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
