How can you tell a monkey from an ape?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How can you tell a monkey from an ape?

The Big Idea

Monkeys and apes are both primates. But they're not the same! How can you tell them apart?

Tails

Step one: Tails. Monkeys and apes are both primates, but they have some clear differences. Most monkeys have tails, and apes don't.

Bigger Apes

Step two: Bigger Apes. Apes, like gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees, and gibbons, are usually larger and have wider chests. They can swing their arms in big circles.

Monkey Moves

Step three: Monkey Moves. Monkeys often walk on all fours along the tops of branches. Humans are apes too, with no tails and arms that swing in circles.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Tails. Big apes. Long arms. Small apes.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Gibbons are the smallest apes. Most monkeys have tails. Apes have no tails. Humans are apes too.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Look at pictures of a baboon and a gorilla. Look for a tail on each. Make a list of three differences. Write one thing they share. Which one are you more like?
