Why do turtles cross roads?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do turtles cross roads?

The Big Idea

Why did the turtle cross the road? It's not a joke! There are real reasons.

Nesting Trips

Step one: Nesting Trips. In late spring and summer, mother turtles travel to find soft, sunny ground to lay eggs. They may walk a long way to the perfect spot.

Pond to Pond

Step two: Pond to Pond. Turtles also walk between ponds and wetlands to find food and new homes. Roads cut through these paths, so turtles sometimes try to cross.

Danger from Cars

Step three: Danger from Cars. Because turtles are slow, they're in danger from cars. Drivers can help by going slowly and watching for animals.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Big reason. Moving between. In the way. Dangerous.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A turtle's slow walk makes crossing a road a big journey. Mother turtles seek nest spots. Spring is a busy time. Drivers should slow down.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Draw a map showing a pond, a road, and a sandy nesting spot. Draw the turtle's path. Add a sign. Write turtle crossing, slow down! Color your map.

Outro
