What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Is venom the same thing as poison?

The Big Idea

Venom and poison sound the same. But they're different! What's the difference?

Venom

Step one: Venom. Venom is a liquid some animals make in special glands and inject with a bite or sting. A venomous snake uses its venom mostly to protect itself or catch small prey.

Poison

Step two: Poison. Poison is a substance that harms you if you touch or swallow it. Some brightly colored frogs are poisonous, so look but never touch.

Know the Difference

Step three: Know the Difference. Not every dangerous animal is venomous, and not every venomous animal is dangerous to people. Knowing the difference helps scientists, doctors, and you stay safe. Never touch a wild snake.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Injected. Touched. Venomous. Poisonous.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Venom is made inside the animal's body. Venom is injected. Some frogs are poisonous. Look but don't touch.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Make two cards. Label one venom: injected by a bite or sting. Label the other poison: harmful to touch or swallow. Draw a picture on each. Quiz a friend with them.
