Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What does a reptile do from sunrise to sunset?
The Big Idea
What does a reptile do all day? Its schedule is all about temperature! Let's follow a reptile's day.
Midday Shade
Step one: Midday Shade. You stay warm all day without trying, but a reptile has to manage its temperature hour by hour. When the midday sun gets too hot, many desert lizards hide in shade or burrows.
Busy Times
Step two: Busy Times. A reptile spends part of its day hunting and part resting, keeping its temperature just right. Because it burns little energy, it may eat only now and then.
Night Shift
Step three: Night Shift. Some reptiles, like many geckos, flip the schedule. They rest during the day and come out at night, using warm walls and rocks to stay active.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! Warm up. Find shade. Last hunt. Geckos wake.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Many geckos are active at night. Shade prevents overheating. Reptiles eat only now and then. Warmth sets a reptile's schedule.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Write a one-day diary for a desert lizard. Include eating, hiding from heat, and sleeping. Then write a night diary for a gecko. Compare the two schedules. Which would you rather be?
Outro
A reptile's day is built around temperature. Many lizards hunt and rest, hide from the midday heat, and eat only now and then, while many geckos flip the schedule and come out at night. Science is amazing! Keep asking questions! The more you look around, the more wonders you will find, so keep your eyes open!
