What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Where does the tap water in a big city like Toronto come from?

The Big Idea

Turn on a tap in Toronto, and out comes water! But where does it start? Let's follow it.

The Lake

Step one: The Lake. Toronto gets most of its drinking water from Lake Ontario. It's one of the five Great Lakes, holding a huge amount of fresh water.

Intake Pipes

Step two: Intake Pipes. Long pipes called intakes reach out under the lake. They bring the water to treatment plants, where it's cleaned in several steps.

To Your Home

Step three: To Your Home. Clean water is pumped through underground pipes to homes, schools, and fire hydrants. Many Great Lakes cities do something similar, while others use rivers, reservoirs, or wells.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The source. Long pipe. Cleaning. Your tap.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Millions of people share the same lake for their water. Intakes reach far out. Cleaned in steps. Hydrants use it too.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! With a grown-up, look up your city's water website. Find where your tap water comes from. Write down the source. Find it on a map. How far does it travel?
