Book 30, Question 45 · Video
What happens to a pond when it rains?
Raindrops make rings that spread across the water and mix the top layer, adding oxygen. Rain raises the water level and can wash mud, leaves, and fertilizer into the pond from the land. After a heavy storm, water may turn cloudy or brown. Pond animals such as frogs often get active in warm rain. Healthy shorelines with plants slow runoff.

What Crafty Clover says in this video
Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What happens to a pond when it rains?
The Big Idea
Rain changes a pond! Every drop does something. What happens when it rains?
Ripples
Step one: Ripples. Raindrops make rings that spread across the water and mix the top layer. That mixing adds oxygen to the water.
Runoff
Step two: Runoff. Rain raises the water level and can wash mud, leaves, and fertilizer into the pond from the land. After a heavy storm, the water may turn cloudy or brown.
Active Animals
Step three: Active Animals. Pond animals such as frogs often get active in warm rain. Healthy shorelines with plants slow the runoff before it reaches the water.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! Spread out. Mixed in. Washes in. Slow runoff.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Each raindrop makes a tiny crater in the surface. Rain adds oxygen. Storms cloud the water. Plants slow runoff.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Fill a bowl with water. Drop water onto it with a dropper. Watch the ripples spread. Try bigger and smaller drops. How far do the rings travel?
Outro
Raindrops make rings that mix a pond's top layer and add oxygen, and rain raises the water level while washing in mud, leaves, and fertilizer. After storms, water may turn cloudy, frogs get active, and shoreline plants slow the runoff. Science is amazing! Keep asking questions! The more you look around, the more wonders you will find, so keep your eyes open! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download!
