Intro
Hey there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do printers put ink on paper?
The Big Idea
A printer is like a robot painter. It puts tiny dots of ink or powder on paper, following instructions from a computer. An inkjet printer sprays droplets of ink. A laser printer uses heat to melt a plastic powder called toner onto the page. Even photos are made of millions of tiny dots that are too small to see!
File Is Sent
Step one: the file is sent. The computer describes every dot on the page. Then it sends those instructions to the printer.
Head Moves
Step two: the head moves. A print head or a laser scans across the paper. Droplets or toner land in just the right spots and stick!
Colors Mix
Step three: the colors mix. Cyan, magenta, yellow, and black dots blend together into full-color pictures. Then rollers push the finished sheet out into the tray!
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look inside an inkjet printer! Paper waits in the paper tray. The nozzles spray the ink. Cartridges hold the colors. And rollers move the paper along!
Quick Facts
Quick facts! CMYK stands for the four common print colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. A low-ink warning does not mean the printer is broken. Recycled paper works fine, but wrinkled paper can cause jams. And factories, newspapers, and sticker shops use giant versions of the same idea!
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Watch dots spread. With a grown-up's help, press a washable marker onto paper. Then spray a little water mist nearby. Do the dots spread out? Printers control spread by using tiny drops.

Printers show us that millions of tiny dots can make a picture. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
