What is a crystal?
A crystal is a solid whose tiny building blocks, called atoms or molecules, are lined up in a neat, repeating pattern that goes in every direction. Salt, sugar, ice, quartz, and even the metal in a spoon are made of crystals. Some crystals are big and shiny, but most are too small to see without a magnifier, so crystals are hiding all around you.
