What is a rabbit warren, and who lives in one?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What is a rabbit warren, and who lives in one?

The Big Idea

A rabbit warren is like an underground neighborhood. It has lots of tunnels and many doors. Let's explore!

The Network

Step one: The Network. A warren is a network of connected burrows with many entrances and chambers. European rabbits dig these tunnels and live in groups.

The Nursery

Step two: The Nursery. The mother digs a separate nursery burrow. She lines it with soft fur and grass, and her babies stay inside for several weeks.

Safe Shelter

Step three: Safe Shelter. Warrens give shelter from the weather. They also protect rabbits from animals that would eat them.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Many entrances lead in. Tunnels connect everything. Chambers are for resting. The nursery keeps babies safe.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A warren can have dozens of entrances. Rabbits thump their back feet to warn each other of danger. Their big ears help them hear danger coming. Rabbits are busiest at dawn and dusk.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Draw a map of a warren. Add tunnels and several entrances. Add a nursery for the babies. Use arrows to show how rabbits move through it. Which way would a rabbit escape danger?
