Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Can a balloon on a string show how thrust works?

The Big Idea

A fan blows air one way. Put it on a toy cart. The cart rolls the other way!

What Is Thrust?

Step one: what is thrust? Thrust is a push that moves something forward. A fan pushes air backward, and the air pushes the fan forward with an equal push.

Fan on a Cart

Step two: fan on a cart. Put a small fan on a toy cart, and the cart rolls the opposite way from the air it blows. A faster fan pushes more air, which makes more thrust.

Real Planes

Step three: real planes. That is how a propeller pulls a plane through the sky. Jet engines use the same idea, but with a much bigger, hotter blast.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The fan spins. Air rushes backward. The cart moves forward. More speed means more thrust.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A push on the air makes an equal push on the fan in the other direction. Propellers pull planes forward. Jet engines blast hot air backward. More air pushed back means more thrust.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! With a grown-up, tape a small battery fan with soft blades to a toy car. Point the blades so they blow air backward. Switch it on and watch the car roll. Always keep your fingers away from the spinning blades. Share what you discover with a grown-up.

Outro

A fan pushes air backward, and the air pushes the fan forward. That forward push is thrust, and it moves toy carts, propeller planes, and jets. Remember to keep fingers away from spinning blades! Science is amazing! Keep asking questions! There is always more to discover, and you are a great science explorer! Ask a grown-up to help you try the mission, and see how fast your fan cart can go. Thank you for exploring with me! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
