Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do stunt kites use two strings to steer?

The Big Idea

Some kites have two strings. One in each hand. How do they steer so fast?

Two Lines

Step one: two lines. A stunt kite has two lines, one in each hand. That is how the flyer steers.

Pull to Turn

Step two: pull to turn. Pulling the left line turns the kite left, and pulling the right line turns it right. Pulling both brings it back toward you.

Fast and Curved

Step three: fast and curved. The kite has a curved shape, with a wide, swept-back wing, and it moves fast. Flyers practice in big open fields and keep a safe distance from other people.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! One line is in each hand. Pull left to turn left. Pull right to turn right. The kite can move very fast.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Pulling the left line turns the kite left. Pulling the right line turns the kite right. Stunt kites can fly loops and figure-eights. Flyers practice in big open fields away from people.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Hold two strings on a toy plane or paper kite. Practice turning by pulling one string at a time. Keep a safe distance from other people and pets. Try the moves outdoors with a grown-up nearby. Write what you notice about left and right pulls.

Outro

A stunt kite steers with two lines so you can pull left or right to turn, and pull both to bring it back, while flying fast loops in a big open field. Science is amazing! What will you discover next?
