Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How are new airplanes tested before they carry people?

The Big Idea

New airplanes face years of tough tests. Engineers push them harder than real flights will. Only then may they carry people!

Bend and Blast

Step one: bend and blast. Engineers bend the wings far past anything flight will ask of them. They run the engines in all kinds of weather, and launch test objects at windows and engines.

Test Pilots Fly

Step two: test pilots fly. Test pilots fly the plane over and over to check how it handles. Test flights can include flying in very hot, very cold, and very high places.

Experts Approve

Step three: experts approve. Government experts must approve the plane. Only then can it be used for passengers.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Wings get bent hard. Engines face tough weather. Test pilots fly often. Experts give approval.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Testing can take years. Objects are fired at windows and engines. Flights test hot, cold, and high places. Approval comes before any passengers.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Think of a toy you made. Describe three tests you would do to make sure it works well. Write each test down. Ask what could go wrong. Share your test plan with a grown-up.

Outro

Before passengers board, new planes get years of wing, engine, weather, and test-pilot checks, and then government experts must approve them as safe. Science is amazing! What will you discover next? Every question is a new adventure, so keep wondering and keep exploring with me! Ask a grown-up to help you invent three careful tests for a toy you made, and write them down. Keep looking up! Keep learning together! Wonder never runs out! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
