How Do Solar Lamps and Small Grids Bring Light to Faraway Places?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do solar lamps and small grids bring light to faraway places?

The Big Idea

Some villages are far from any power line. Still, they can have light at night. A small solar lantern does the job!

Far From the Grid

Step one: far from the grid. Some places are too far from power lines for a grid to reach. People there can still use the Sun.

Solar Lantern

Step two: the solar lantern. A solar lantern has a small panel that charges a battery during the day. At night, it lights a bright LED.

Small Grids

Step three: small grids. Small local grids, powered by solar panels or small generators, can run a village. Having light at night lets children read and study, and helps people stay safe.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The panel catches daylight. The battery stores it. At night, the LED shines. Children can read.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A good solar lantern can run for many hours on one day's charge. Light at night lets children read and study. It also helps people stay safe. Small local grids can run a whole village.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Charge a solar garden light in the sun for a day. After dark, see how long it glows. Write down the time. Try again after a cloudy day. Share your results with someone you love.
