What Crafty Clover says in this video
Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What makes an energy source renewable?
The Big Idea
Some energy sources keep coming back. Others run out. What makes the difference?
Replaced Naturally
Step one: replaced naturally. A renewable energy source can be replaced naturally on a human timescale. Sunlight, wind, flowing water, ocean tides, geothermal heat, and plants are all renewable.
Not Renewable
Step two: not renewable. Coal, oil, and gas are not renewable. They took millions of years to form, and we use them much faster than nature makes more.
Not Perfect
Step three: not perfect, but lasting. Renewable does not mean perfect. But it can keep going.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! Sunshine returns each day. Wind blows again and again. Rivers keep flowing. Coal cannot be remade quickly.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! The Sun delivers about as much energy to Earth in one hour as people use in a year. Wind and flowing water are renewable. So is geothermal heat from inside the Earth. Coal and oil are not renewable.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Make a list or cards. Sort them into renewable and not renewable. Use wind, coal, sunshine, oil, waves, wood, and tides. Which pile is bigger? Share your results with someone you love.
Outro
Renewable energy sources, like sunlight, wind, and water, can be replaced naturally and keep going. They are not perfect, but they can last a very long time. Coal, oil, and gas cannot be replaced that quickly, so using them wisely matters. Remember to look for renewable choices around you! Science is amazing! Keep asking questions! Every question is a new adventure, so keep wondering and keep exploring with me! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download!
