What Is the Energy Hiding in Food, Fuel, and Batteries?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What is the energy hiding in food, fuel, and batteries?

The Big Idea

Food, fuel, and batteries all have energy hiding inside. It is called chemical energy. Let's find where it hides!

Atoms Hold Hands

Step one: atoms hold hands. Chemical energy is stored in the bonds that hold atoms together. Food, wood, gasoline, and batteries all store it.

Bonds Change

Step two: the bonds change. When these substances are burned, digested, or used in a battery, the bonds change. Energy is released as heat, motion, or electricity.

Power Your Body

Step three: power your body. Your body uses the chemical energy in food to power every move you make. Even thinking and sleeping use it.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Food feeds your body. Wood burns to give heat. Gasoline powers engines. Batteries power gadgets.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A single spoonful of sugar holds enough chemical energy for a short walk. The energy hides in the bonds between atoms. Your body uses food energy for every move you make. Batteries store chemical energy in a different way.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Look at a food package label with a grown-up. Find the line that says Calories. That number shows how much energy is stored in one serving. Which snack in your kitchen stores the most? Keep asking why, and keep exploring!

Outro

Chemical energy hides in food, fuel, and batteries, and it is released when their bonds change. So the next time you eat a snack, remember the energy inside! Science is amazing! What will you discover next? Every question is a new adventure, so keep wondering and keep exploring with me! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books.
