Why Can Strong Magnets Pinch Fingers and Shatter?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why can strong magnets pinch fingers and shatter?

The Big Idea

Super-strong neodymium magnets are not toys. They can pinch a finger badly, and they can even shatter like glass. Let's learn why, and how to stay safe. Remember, if you find strong magnets, leave them alone and tell a grown-up.

A Powerful Snap

Step one: a powerful snap. Strong neodymium magnets snap together with great force from a distance. Skin caught between them can be badly pinched, and it can really hurt.

Brittle Like Glass

Step two: brittle like glass. These magnets are also brittle, like glass. If they slam together, pieces can chip and fly off, which can hurt eyes.

Only for Grown-ups

Step three: only for grown-ups. That is why strong magnets are for grown-ups only. They wear safety glasses and keep the magnets apart.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Strong magnets snap together fast. Fingers can be pinched. The magnets can chip and shatter. Grown-ups wear safety glasses.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A wooden or plastic spacer between magnets can keep them from snapping together. Safety glasses protect eyes. Pinches can be very painful. Strong magnets are for grown-ups only.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Use only large, toy-safe magnets. Make a poster that shows how to keep fingers away when two magnets come together. Add big arrows. Share it with your family. Write down what you notice, and share it with a grown-up.
