Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Do other planets have magnetic fields?
The Big Idea
Does Earth have the only magnetic field in space? Not at all! Many planets have magnetic fields, and some are very strange. Let's take a tour of the planets, one world at a time!
Fields Galore
Step one: fields galore. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune all have magnetic fields. Mercury has a weak one, and Jupiter's is the strongest of all. Even some moons have fields of their own.
No Fields
Step two: no global field. Venus and Mars have no global magnetic field today. A global field is one that surrounds the whole planet. Mars does still have a few magnetic patches in its rocks, but no field around the whole planet.
Lopsided Fields
Step three: lopsided fields. The fields of Uranus and Neptune are tilted far from their spin axis and are off-center. That makes them lopsided and strange, like a magnet tipped over and pushed to the side.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! Jupiter has the strongest field. Mercury has a weak one. Mars has none today. Neptune's field is tilted and lopsided.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Ganymede, a moon of Jupiter, has its own magnetic field. Jupiter's field is the strongest. Venus and Mars have no global field today. Uranus and Neptune have lopsided fields.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Make a chart with eight planets. Use a green check for has a field. Use an X for has none. Use what you just learned to fill it in. Write down what you notice, and share it with a grown-up.
Outro
Many planets have magnetic fields, and each one is a little different. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
