How Do Snow Leopards Live in Cold Mountains?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do snow leopards live in cold mountains?

The Big Idea

Snow leopards live in cold mountains thanks to a built-in winter outfit! They have thick fur, wide furry paws, and a long tail. Snow leopards live high in the mountains of Central Asia.

Thick Fur

Step one: thick fur. A snow leopard has smoky-gray fur with dark spots. The thick coat keeps it warm, and the colors blend in with gray rocks and snow.

Snowshoe Paws

Step two: wide, furry paws. Big paws spread out the leopard's weight, so it does not sink in deep snow. The fur on the bottom also keeps its feet warm, like built-in snowshoes.

Long Tail

Step three: a long tail. The tail helps with balance when the leopard leaps across steep rocks and canyons. When it sleeps, it wraps the tail around itself like a cozy scarf.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The thick fur holds in warmth. The wide paws work like snowshoes. The long tail balances the leopard and keeps its face warm. And its spots make it very hard to spot.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A snow leopard's tail can be almost as long as its body. These cats can leap across canyons. They are shy and rarely seen by people. Scientists use hidden cameras to learn about them.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Draw a snow leopard in the snow with its tail wrapped around it. Label the fur, the paws, and the tail. Add some spots to help it hide. Show your drawing to someone you love!
