Intro

Hey there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Where does trash go?

The Big Idea

After you throw something away, where does it go? It does not vanish! Trash is collected, sorted, buried, burned, or remade. It still takes up space on Earth. That is why it matters what we throw away. Knowing where trash goes helps us choose better ways to handle it.

You Toss It

Step one: you toss it. You throw your trash into a bin, and not onto the ground. Litter can harm animals and pollute rivers, so bins are the right place. Trucks visit homes and streets on a regular schedule.

A Truck Takes It

Step two: a truck takes it. Workers collect the trash and take it away in a truck. The truck drives it to a special place for handling. Some material becomes new things, and some goes to a landfill.

It Is Sorted

Step three: it is sorted. At a facility, materials are separated into paper, plastic, and other things. Things that can be reused are pulled out first.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at where trash goes! First, you toss it. Second, a truck takes it. Third, it is sorted. And fourth, some is buried or remade. It may go to a landfill, or be turned into something new.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Less trash starts with using less. A landfill is a big, carefully built place where trash is buried under layers of soil. Some trash can be burned to make heat and power, in special plants. Food scraps can be turned into compost, which helps gardens grow.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Count how many wrappers you use in one lunch. Write the number down. Think about how you could use fewer tomorrow. Can you explain how using less helps?

Outro

Trash does not disappear, so the best trick is to make less of it! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
