Intro

Hey there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do we use clocks?

The Big Idea

Have you ever been late because you were not sure what time it was? Clocks give us a shared beat for the day. They let a whole town agree on when. Without them, everybody would have a different idea of when to start, and things would get mixed up.

Sun Time Is Rough

Step one: the sun is not very exact. Long ago, people used the sun to guess the time, like morning, afternoon, and evening. But shadows change all year, and the days are not the same length, so the sun is not very exact.

Clocks Split the Day

Step two: clocks split the day. Clocks divide the day into even pieces called hours, minutes, and seconds. There are 24 hours in a day, and every hour is exactly the same length.

School and Buses Match

Step three: school and buses match. When we all use the same time, school starts together and buses run on time. Plans work, because everyone agrees on the same time. Nobody is left waiting at the bus stop!

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at how clocks help! First, sun time is rough. Second, clocks split the day into even pieces. Third, school and buses match. And fourth, people can meet, because families agree on a when and share moments together.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Time zones exist because Earth is round and spinning. When it is morning where you are, it can be night on the other side of the world. Some clocks are digital and some have hands. Both tell the same time. The first clocks were sundials, and later came water clocks and pendulum clocks.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Look at a clock in your house and find the hour. Think about what would happen if everyone arrived at a different time. Would the bus, the school, and the store still work well? Can you explain why we agree on one time?

Clocks keep us together, one tick at a time! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
