Intro

Hey there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do some kids grow faster?

The Big Idea

Some kids shoot up early, and others take a little longer. Both are normal. Genes, food, sleep, and timing all play a part. Each body has its own clock! That is why some classmates seem tall, and others seem small, even at the same age.

Different Clocks

Step one: everyone has a different clock. Your growth clock is set partly by your genes, the instructions you got from your family. Every kid's clock ticks on its own schedule. Scientists think that genes explain a big part of how tall a person will be.

Fuel and Rest

Step two: fuel and rest. Healthy food gives your body building blocks, and sleep helps your body grow. Together, they help your clock run smoothly. Sleep matters because your body makes most of its growth hormone during deep sleep.

Spurts Come at Different Times

Step three: growth spurts come at different times. Some kids sprout early, and others catch a wave later on. Growth comes in waves, and that is perfectly normal.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at what shapes growth! Genes give your body its own clock. Food and sleep give it building blocks. And timing decides when your spurt arrives.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Being first or last in line is usually just timing. Kids often have growth spurts between about ages 9 and 14. Girls often start their spurt a little earlier than boys. If you are worried about your height, a doctor can help.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Compare shoe sizes in your class. Ask friends what shoe size they wear, if they want to share. Write the numbers in a list. Look at how much they vary. Why do you think the spread is normal?

Outro

Everyone grows on their own clock, and every clock is just right. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
