What Do Scientists Still Wonder About Rainforests?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What do scientists still wonder about rainforests?

The Big Idea

Scientists still wonder about lots of things in rainforests! Many living things have never even been named, because rainforests are so big and so full of life. Each answer opens new questions, and that is what makes exploring so exciting.

How Many Species?

Step one: how many species? Nobody knows exactly how many species live in rainforests, because so many have never been named. There may be millions of insects that no one has named yet.

Changing Weather

Step two: changing weather. Scientists also wonder how forests will respond to changing weather. They measure trees, rain, and animals to find out, and they compare forests in many places.

Finding the Way

Step three: finding the way. How do animals find their way across the forest or across the sky? Which plants might lead to helpful new medicines? These questions are still waiting for answers. Maybe you will help find them someday.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at the questions! Scientists keep exploring new places. They find and name new living things. They track how the forest changes. And they search for helpful new medicine ideas.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! There may be millions of insects no one has named. Scientists are still learning how animals find their way. Each answer leads to new questions. You can be a rainforest scientist someday.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Write your own big rainforest question. Then plan how you would find an answer. You could read, ask, watch, or explore. Pick one way to try this week, with a grown-up.
