Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why does mist rise from the forest after a storm?
The Big Idea
After a storm, the leaves, branches, and ground are warm and wet. When the Sun comes out, water evaporates into the cooler air above. The vapor turns into tiny droplets you can see as mist, and it looks like the forest is breathing!
Warm and Wet
Step one: warm and wet. The storm leaves everything soaking wet. But the air and ground are still warm, and the forest is steamy.
Evaporation
Step two: evaporation. As the Sun comes out, water on the leaves and ground turns into invisible vapor. The vapor floats up into cooler air.
Mist Appears
Step three: mist appears. In the cooler air, the vapor turns back into tiny water droplets, and we see them as mist. Soon the mist rises, thins, and joins the clouds.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look at mist! Wet leaves and soil are full of water after the storm. The Sun warms them up. Vapor rises into cooler air. And it turns into floating mist.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! In the early morning, mist can hang over the canopy like smoke. Mist is made of tiny floating water droplets. Warm air meeting cool air makes mist. Do this with a grown-up and warm, not hot, water.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! With a grown-up, pour some warm tap water into a cold bowl. Look just above the surface. Do you see a wispy mist? That is the same trick of warm and cool air.
Outro
After storms, warm and cool air make the forest breathe out mist. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
