What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do desert elephants live where it hardly ever rains?

The Big Idea

Desert elephants live where it hardly ever rains by walking far and digging for water! They remember where water can be found, even if it has been a long time. They also live in smaller groups so less food is needed.

Long Walks

Step one: long walks. In Namibia, some elephants live in the desert. They walk very long distances between water sources, sometimes many miles in one night.

Remember Where

Step two: remember where. They remember where to find water, even after long dry spells. Older elephants lead the family to those places, passing on what they know.

Dig Down

Step three: dig down. When rivers are dry, elephants dig holes in the riverbed with their feet to reach water below the sand. They also eat moist plants and live in smaller family groups.
