Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do the parts of a robot send messages to each other?
The Big Idea
The parts of a robot send messages to each other as tiny electrical signals along wires! Sensors send information to the brain. The brain sends commands to the motors.
Sensors Report
Step one: sensors report. A sensor measures something, like distance, and sends the number along a wire. The brain reads it, almost instantly, and uses it to decide what to do next.
Brain Commands
Step two: the brain commands. The brain decides what to do and sends commands to the motors. The motors turn, and the robot moves.
Shared Wires
Step three: shared wires. Some parts use special shared wires called buses, so many parts can talk on one cable. Some robots also use radio signals, like the ones that let your phone talk to a speaker.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! The sensor measures and sends numbers. The brain reads them and decides. The motor gets the command and moves. The wires carry every message along. Without messages, the parts could not work as a team.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Fewer, well-planned wires keep robots tidy. A bus lets many parts share one cable. Signals in wires travel very fast, much faster than you can blink. Never poke wires on plugged-in devices, and ask a grown-up to help.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Make a line of friends, holding hands. The first squeezes the second's hand, which passes the squeeze along. Pretend the first is a sensor and the last is a motor. How long does the message take?
