Why Do Swarms of Tiny Robots Work Together Like Ants?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do swarms of tiny robots work together like ants?

The Big Idea

Swarms of tiny robots work together like ants because each one follows a few simple rules! Each robot senses only its neighbors. Together, they can do big jobs, like searching a large area.

Simple Rules

Step one: simple rules. A swarm is a group of small, simple robots that follow the same easy rules. Each one is cheap and not very smart on its own, but the group is clever.

Sense Neighbors

Step two: sense the neighbors. Each robot only senses the robots close to it. But together, they can form shapes, move things, or search an area.

No Boss Needed

Step three: no boss needed. There is no leader telling every robot what to do. If one robot stops, the others keep going, which makes swarms very dependable.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Each swarm robot is small and simple. All of them follow the same rules. Each watches only its neighbors. And from that, big shapes can appear. Teamwork makes the whole swarm strong.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Ants and bees work in a similar way, passing simple signals to each other. Swarm robots could search a big area faster than one robot. If one robot breaks, the swarm can still finish the job. Play the swarm game in a big, clear space and move slowly.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Play swarm with friends. Everyone tries to stay about two steps from the nearest person while moving slowly around a room. No one is the leader. What shapes appear, and what if one person stops?
