Why Can Drone Light Shows Paint Pictures in the Night Sky?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why can drone light shows paint pictures in the night sky?

The Big Idea

Drone light shows paint pictures in the night sky because each drone is a flying dot of light! A computer plans where every drone should be at every moment. Together, hundreds of lights make a picture.

Light Up

Step one: light up. Each drone in a light show carries a bright LED light that can change color. One drone makes one glowing dot.

Plan the Dance

Step two: plan the dance. A computer plans where each drone should be at every moment, like dancers in a show. Each one follows its own path to make the picture.

Know Where You Are

Step three: know where you are. Satellite GPS helps each drone know exactly where it is, within a few centimeters. That keeps hundreds of drones at safe distances from each other.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Every drone glows like one dot of a picture. The plan tells it when and where to fly. GPS keeps its place exact. Hundreds of dots become a picture in the night sky.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Some shows use hundreds or even thousands of drones. The drones fly to a plan and keep safe distances from each other. The drones are very light, and many are made of foam and plastic. Watch shows from the crowd area, never get close to the drones.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Draw a 10 by 10 grid of dots on paper. Color dots to draw a heart. Make a second grid and draw a star. If a drone moved from one dot to the next, which shape has the longest trip?
