Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do most small drones have four rotors?

The Big Idea

Most small drones have four rotors because four gives a great mix of balance and control! Each rotor pushes air downward to hold the drone up. Speeding up some rotors and slowing others lets the drone tilt, turn, and move.

Push Air Down

Step one: push air down. Each rotor is a spinning blade that pushes air toward the ground. The air pushes back, and that lifts the drone into the sky.

Change Speeds

Step two: change the speeds. If rotors on one side spin faster, that side lifts more and the drone tilts. Spinning some rotors faster than others is how a drone turns and moves.

Four Is Just Right

Step three: four is a happy number. Three rotors are harder to control, and more rotors add weight and cost. Four rotors keep a small drone steady and simple.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! In the middle is the body, with the battery and brain. Four rotors spin, one at each corner. Spread out in a square, they hold the drone from all sides. That spread keeps it balanced, like a table with four legs.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A drone with four rotors is called a quadcopter. The rotors sit at the corners, far apart, for steady balance. Bigger drones can have six or eight rotors to carry heavier loads. Always fly a drone with a grown-up, far away from people.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Look at pictures of drones and count the rotors. Draw a drone with four rotors in a square. Why do you think the rotors are at the corners, not in a line? Tell a grown-up what you decide!

Outro

Four rotors give a drone balance and control. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
