Why Do Robots in Science Labs Move Tiny Drops of Liquid?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do robots in science labs move tiny drops of liquid?

The Big Idea

Lab robots move tiny drops of liquid because they can measure more exactly than hands! They use thin tubes to move the drops from one container to another. A drop can be smaller than a raindrop.

Thin Tubes

Step one: thin tubes. A lab robot uses thin tubes called pipettes to pick up a tiny amount of liquid. It can move drops smaller than a raindrop.

Many Copies

Step two: make copies. A robot can make hundreds of exact copies of an experiment. Each copy gets exactly the same amount.

Test Many Ideas

Step three: speed up science. This is faster and more careful than doing it by hand. It helps scientists test many ideas at once.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! A thin tube sucks up a precise amount. The drop is moved to a new container. The robot repeats this for hundreds of dishes. Each dish becomes a small experiment. The robot's measuring is more precise than hands.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Some lab robots can place drops a thousand times smaller than a teaspoon. Robots do not get tired or bored, so they stay accurate. Scientists use them to test new medicines. Never taste or touch lab liquids. Use plain water at home.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Use a dropper to put exactly ten drops of water into each of five cups. Do the cups hold the same amount? Pour each into a measuring cup to check. Why does a machine help with this?
