Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How can a robot sort red blocks from blue ones?

The Big Idea

A robot can sort red blocks from blue ones by measuring the color of light that comes back! A color sensor or a camera does the measuring. Then a program compares the numbers with simple rules.

Measure Color

Step one: measure color. A color sensor or a camera measures how much red, green, and blue light comes back from a block. It turns those amounts into three numbers, like 200, 30, and 40 for a red block.

Use a Rule

Step two: use a rule. The program compares the numbers with rules, like if red is high, it is a red block. A blue block has a high blue number instead, so the rule sends it to a different bin.

Sort It

Step three: sort it. Then the arm puts the block into the correct bin. It does this very quickly, and it does not get bored, even after thousands of blocks.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The sensor measures color. The numbers describe how red or blue the block is. Rules choose the bin. And the arm drops the block in the right place.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Lighting matters, because shadows change the numbers. Many factories use color sorting for fruit and recycling. Fixed lights make the readings steadier. Wash your hands after handling candies and blocks.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, try an experiment! Sort a handful of colored blocks or candies into groups. Write your rule for each group, like if it is mostly red, it goes here. Then ask a friend to follow only your rules. Did they sort them the same way?

Outro

Color numbers and simple rules sort the blocks. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
