Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How small can a robot get, and how big?
The Big Idea
Robots can be super tiny or really huge, and size depends on the job! Scientists have built flying robots smaller than a coin. Others are smaller than a grain of rice, and some are as big as a house.
Tiny Robots
Step one: tiny robots. Some flying robots are smaller than a coin and flap their wings like insects. Even tinier robots, smaller than a grain of rice, are made for science experiments.
Space Giant
Step two: a big arm in space. Canadarm2 on the space station is about 17 meters long. That is longer than a school bus, and it can move huge pieces of equipment.
House-Sized
Step three: giant trucks. Some mining trucks drive themselves and are as big as a house. They carry tons of rock and follow routes without drivers.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! Some tiny robots are so small you need a microscope. Others are the size of a coin. Arms can be as long as a bus. And the biggest are as large as a house.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Tiny robots might one day help doctors, but they are still being tested. A small robot has little room for a big battery. A giant robot needs huge motors. Be safe when you walk and measure, and watch for traffic.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, take the challenge! Mark out 17 meters outside by walking about 20 big steps. That is the length of Canadarm2. Now look at a grain of rice. How many grains would it take to cover the same distance?
